SIMTank is a concept that was developed by the Society of Information Management (SIM) Colorado, and is based on the popular ABC program “Shark Tank.” The SIMTank is an annual event in which four Denver-area startups pitch their ideas to some of the top venture capital investors in Colorado. Investors quiz the companies, vet the competition, and then decide on a winner. The winning startup is presented with a check based on the amount of money we raise from sponsors.

Audience members get to participate in the event as well. A mobile application, made by Brainspire Solutions specifically for the event, allows each audience member to invest a fake one million dollars in the startups, divided however they see fit. At the end of the event, a live graph of how much money was invested into each company is shown to the audience, thus providing a “popular vote” aspect to this exciting event. SIMTank is attended by many local technology leaders and experts, and is open to the public. Tweet about your experience at SIMTank using the hashtag #SIMTankColorado!

Finally, at the end of the event, a check is given to KidsTek from the money raised through sponsorship of the SIMTank event. KidsTek is a local non-profit that helps under-served youths in Colorado pursue professions in technology-related industries. Attendees get to personally hear from a KidsTek student about how the program is enriching their life.
